Sinead Hamilton

I started my PhD in James McInerney’s lab in October 2009 after completing my B.Sc in Biology, also in NUI Maynooth.  My PhD is about looking at tradeoffs seen in sensory evolution.

I am currently working on tracing the evolution of colour and dim-light vision to see how the dim-light pathway emerged, as well as how early colour vision evolved during the Cambrian period.  Some of this work has been presented at SMBE 2010 as a poster.

In the future I intend to look at possible tradeoffs associated with highly duplicated sensory receptors, used in olfaction and gustation, in vertebrate genomes.
